A new chapter has been written in Malawian football history. The Scorchers have officially sealed their first-ever qualification for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations marking a milestone moment for women’s football in the country.

Following a hard-fought 0-0 draw in Luanda last week, Malawi confirmed their ticket thanks to a 2-0 victory in Lilongwe, completing a memorable aggregate win over Angola.

A historic night in Lilongwe

It was four days earlier, in Angola, that Malawi’s destiny was shaped in front of an electric crowd. Backed by passionate supporters aware of the magnitude of the moment, Lovemore Fazili’s side showed patience, resilience, and belief.

With the match finely balanced, Faith Chinzimu rose to the occasion in the closing stages. In the 82nd minute, she broke the deadlock with a powerful strike from the edge of the box. Just two minutes later, she struck again — this time with a sharp first-time finish from a Wezzie Mvula cross — sending the stadium into euphoria.

Two goals in as many minutes to write history.
